What is globalization?
Summary
According to the reading, globalization is very general and specifically addressed. This is because we have to deal with not only the worldview but also a number of perspectives inevitably. The concept of globalization has been explicitly mentioned in various academic disciplines since the late 1970s, but since the 1990s the concept has become clear. The development of the concept of globalization began with the rise of people claiming anti-globalization with antipathy to the world's consciousness of inequality by globalization. That is, it started from an economic approach, also called a one-dimensional approach. But at the same time as there were people who advocate anti-globalization. And as people who advocate multi-dimensional and people who one-dimensional dispute each other , there are various aspects of globalization. There are four major categories of these aspects: economic, political, cultural and social.
As various academic factors have been combined into the concept of globalization, the form of globalization has also developed. According to Wallerstein, modern globalization is caused by the expansion of capitalism. He also argues that the world can be a system through global capitalism. The one system that we're talking about here is not simply to unify as one, but to focus on moving like a system by increasing the connectivity between the country and the country. He also says individual identities should be included in components. This is because it cannot completely rule out the individual's life, the local lifestyle.
What was interesting/what did you learn
It was usually thought of as a concept for a particular group or individual when it came to globalization. Most of them did not think deeply about the use of globalization tools such as ‘Aren't we supposed to be in the age of globalization?’, ‘Talent Award for the Globalization Era’. However, as mentioned in the above passage, globalization did not realize that it should focus on not just unifying as one, but on increasing the connectivity between the state and the state, moving like a system.
Discussion Point:
Looking at the history of the concept from the past to the present, I wondered what globalization would mean in the future. I also felt the need to think about what is the desirable direction of globalization.
It is a very interesting view to me that developing countries that do not belong to the OECD are being excluded. I didn't go that far from the Korean point of view. Before we talk about this problem, we should think about what true globalization is. True globalization, which fits the gist of your article, seems to be globalization, which has little or no discrimination. Of course, I think there should be no discrimination and exclusion in the process of globalization. But that's not the case in reality. In our society too, exploitation, discrimination and exclusion are common in the relationship of power. Such problems arise, as there certainly exists a privileged country in the course of globalization. If these problems are inevitable, we must constantly speak out. We all have to be in charge and speak out before we can lay the blame on those in the midst of discrimination and exclusion, 'Why not?'
